Who this is for

This service is built for these situations

Stripe asked for your EIN

Your account moved from "creating" to "verification needed" — the EIN is the missing piece.

You're a SaaS founder

Selling subscriptions to U.S. customers via Stripe Checkout or Billing — EIN required.

You're a digital service business

Agency, consulting, or freelancer billing in USD — Stripe makes this easy with the right EIN.

You're selling courses or content

Stripe-powered platforms (Teachable, Podia, Memberstack) all need your EIN.

You're running marketplaces

Stripe Connect for two-sided marketplaces — EIN is non-negotiable.

You moved from a non-U.S. Stripe account

Switching from a UK, Singapore, or other Stripe account to a U.S. one? You'll need a U.S. EIN.

Why this is hard alone

Getting an EIN as a non-U.S. founder is full of small traps

The IRS process wasn't designed with international applicants in mind. Most rejections and multi-month delays come from a handful of avoidable mistakes.

Common pitfalls

What usually goes wrong when filing alone

  • Stripe's business activity description doesn't match your SS-4 — verification stalls.
  • You enter "Sole Proprietor" on Stripe but your LLC is filed as an LLC on the EIN.
  • Your EIN letter is a low-quality scan that Stripe's OCR rejects.
  • The business type you choose in Stripe's tax details doesn't match your SS-4 entity type.

Our approach

How we prevent each of those problems

  • We coordinate your SS-4 business description with what you'll enter on Stripe.
  • Entity type on the SS-4 matches the business type you'll enter on Stripe.
  • EIN letter delivered as a clean PDF, ready for Stripe upload.
  • If Stripe asks a verification question, we help you respond correctly.
Our approach

What we actually do for you

  1. Stripe-aware SS-4

We ask what business activity you'll declare on Stripe before filing your SS-4, so the two match perfectly.

  2. Filing & follow-up

Your SS-4 is filed via the correct IRS channel. You receive status updates throughout IRS processing.

  3. Tax-details readiness

When you enter your tax details on Stripe, your EIN, legal name and entity type all line up with the IRS record, which is what Stripe checks.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions from non-U.S. applicants

If your question isn't here, contact us — we'll answer honestly, even if the answer is 'this isn't a fit for our service.'

Why does Stripe need my EIN?

Stripe reports U.S. payments to the IRS on Form 1099-K and verifies the tax ID on each account against IRS records. For a U.S. LLC, that tax ID is the LLC's EIN, and the legal name you enter must match the IRS record exactly.

Can I activate Stripe before I have my EIN?

You can create the account, but you can't receive payouts until your tax information is verified. For U.S. LLCs, that means your EIN. So practically: get the EIN first, then activate Stripe.

How long does Stripe verification take after I provide the EIN?

If everything matches (legal name, address, entity type, EIN), Stripe verification is usually automatic within 24 hours. Mismatches can take 5–10 business days while a human reviews. One exception: the IRS notes a brand-new EIN can take up to two weeks to work for IRS TIN matching, so a check against IRS records may not pass on day one — wait a few days before changing any details.

Does Stripe accept non-U.S. residents as account owners?

Stripe accepts U.S. business accounts owned by non-U.S. residents, provided you have a U.S.-formed entity and an EIN. Your country of residence is asked but doesn't generally block account approval.

What's the difference between Stripe Atlas and Stripe payment processing?

Stripe Atlas is Stripe's business formation service (forms your LLC, applies for EIN, opens a bank account). Stripe payment processing is the payments product. You can use Stripe payment processing without Atlas — and that's when you need to bring your own EIN.

The IRS determines its own processing times, which may vary depending on application volume. Faxed applications requiring a response by mail can take 1–3 months to process. We simplify the process by following up with the IRS on your behalf and keeping you informed of your application status. Once your EIN is assigned, we notify you promptly. While processing times cannot be guaranteed, we strive to make the experience as smooth and straightforward as possible. All prices are listed in USD with no hidden fees, and payments can be made securely through PayPal using supported international payment methods.
