EIN for Shopify
EIN for Shopify — activate Shopify Payments in USD
Shopify Payments for a U.S. business needs a verified EIN, plus identity verification of the account representative (a passport for non-U.S. residents), before you can receive USD payouts. Without it, you're stuck on third-party gateways with higher fees and worse reliability.

This service is built for these situations
You want Shopify Payments (USD)
Cheaper than third-party gateways and integrated directly into Shopify Admin.
Your Shopify is currently in test mode
Can't use Shopify Payments until it's activated — which means EIN time.
You're a dropshipper or print-on-demand seller
Direct-to-consumer U.S. orders need USD payouts to work efficiently.
You're moving from Shopify Payments (UK / EU) to U.S.
Switching your account base means a new EIN for the U.S. side.
You're launching a Shopify-powered brand
Pre-launch checklist: U.S. LLC, EIN, Shopify Payments, Mercury bank.
You're tired of gateway fees
PayPal and Stripe both work, but Shopify Payments is usually cheapest for native Shopify stores.
Getting an EIN as a non-U.S. founder is full of small traps
The IRS process wasn't designed with international applicants in mind. Most rejections and multi-month delays come from a handful of avoidable mistakes.
Common pitfalls
What usually goes wrong when filing alone
- Shopify Payments verification requests EIN — and a mismatch with business name fails the check.
- Business address on Shopify doesn't match your SS-4 — KYC review delays activation.
- You activated Shopify under your personal name, but the EIN belongs to an LLC.
- Shopify Payments only accepts U.S. business bank accounts — and that's a separate setup.
Our approach
How we prevent each of those problems
- SS-4 prepared with the same legal name you used on Shopify.
- Address and entity type aligned with Shopify's account profile.
- EIN letter delivered as a clean PDF for Shopify upload.
- Optional banking-readiness add-on for the Mercury or Relay account that comes next.
What we actually do for you
Pre-filing review
We compare your existing Shopify account details with what your SS-4 will say — and recommend adjustments to either if needed.

If your question isn't here, contact us — we'll answer honestly, even if the answer is 'this isn't a fit for our service.'
Can I sell on Shopify without an EIN?
You can sell using third-party gateways (PayPal, Stripe). What you can't do is activate Shopify Payments — Shopify's integrated payments product — without an EIN tied to a U.S.-formed entity. Shopify also verifies the identity of the account representative.
Does Shopify Payments work outside the U.S.?
Shopify Payments works in specific countries (UK, Canada, Australia, etc.) for entities formed there. If you're operating through a U.S. LLC, you need to enable the U.S. version of Shopify Payments — which requires a U.S. EIN.
I formed my LLC weeks ago and Shopify is still pending. What's wrong?
Most often it's an EIN mismatch (name or address doesn't align between Shopify profile and EIN letter) or simply that you haven't uploaded the EIN to Shopify yet. We can review and help align if needed.
Does Shopify Payments require a U.S. business bank account?
Yes — USD payouts go to a U.S. business checking account. Mercury, Relay, Wise (USD account), and similar all work. The EIN is what unlocks that bank setup in the first place.
Can I use my Shopify Payments fees as a business expense?
Yes, ordinary and necessary business expenses (including payment processing fees) are generally deductible. But that's a tax question, not an EIN question — and we're not your tax advisor. We can point you to one if you'd like.

The IRS determines its own processing times, which may vary depending on application volume. Faxed applications requiring a response by mail can take 1–3 months to process. We simplify the process by following up with the IRS on your behalf and keeping you informed of your application status. Once your EIN is assigned, we notify you promptly. While processing times cannot be guaranteed, we strive to make the experience as smooth and straightforward as possible. All prices are listed in USD with no hidden fees, and payments can be made securely through PayPal using supported international payment methods.
